History of the Ragdoll Cat

The late Ann Baker of Riverside, California, is credited with originating the Ragdoll in the early 1960's.  The foundation cat of the Ragdoll, a white feral cat named Jospehine, was actually owned by a neighbor of Ann Baker.  Jospehine mated with her son, Daddy War Bucks, to produce Ann Baker's first bicolor ragdoll, Fugianna.  These decendents of Josephine were interbred to create and establish the Ragdoll. The Ragdoll traits she developed included a big, sturdy body, a soft "bunny" type coat, blue eyes and a docile personality.  The breed was named "Ragdoll" because they usually go "limp" in your arms when held.

Owning a Ragdoll will most likely be different than owning another cat.  Ragdolls can be almost "doglike".  They want to be with you at all times, wait for you at the door when you come home, want to "help" you with everything you do, and can even be trained to fetch.  They love attention, and will sit or sleep with you.  They learn their names quickly, and will come when called.  When you have guests, your Ragdoll will most likely greet them right before or after you do.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Ragdolls!
